Agriculture is one of the fundamental and primary sectors in Eritrean society. It is a central element of the country’s livelihood and a key to its people’s survival. This is why the importance of agriculture is reflected in the culture and traditions of the people of Eritrea, where it holds a special place in the daily lives of families.
Cooperation and working with land is essential in all sectors. For example, agricultural activities are linked with essential elements such as food production, crop cultivation, and livestock raising. Through such work, individuals contribute to both the sustainability of their homes and the broader national economic framework.
In Eritrean society, working in agriculture is not just about labor but also about the interaction between communities and nature. This includes the use of appropriate farming methods, soil conservation practices, and raising livestock, all of which are part of the essential relationship between the land and its people.
Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture has introduced a Gender Mainstreaming Strategy to promote the role of women in agriculture and address gender disparities within the sector. This initiative seeks to ensure that both men and women have equal opportunities to benefit from agricultural activities and contribute to national development.
